Well… Highlands definitely got its winter moment this week.
That big storm everyone was tracking finally rolled into town and reminded us what a real coastal winter storm feels like. Snow started coming down steadily, and between the cold temps and gusty winds off the bay, it felt like one of those old-school Jersey Shore storms where everything just slows down for a day.
Roads got slick pretty quickly, especially the side streets and hills, and you could see plows out early trying to keep up. Depending on where you are in town — up by the hills vs. closer to the water — totals varied, but most of Highlands saw a solid accumulation, enough to cover lawns, cars, and turn the whole town into a snow globe.
What made this one interesting is how coastal it felt. Inland areas got hit harder, but even here by the water we still got a legit storm — snow, wind, and that quiet, eerie calm you get when everything is blanketed and muffled.
It’s one of those storms that:
- Looks great in photos
- Makes driving annoying
- And gives you a perfect excuse to stay in, drink something warm, and watch the snow fall over Sandy Hook Bay
For a town that doesn’t always get crushed by snow, this one definitely counts as “the big one” for the season — the kind people will be referencing all winter: “Remember that storm in January?”
If you got any good Highlands snow pics, this was the one to capture.
